Primary Transition - Entering into year 7
At Frogmore, we believe that students flourish when they feel recognised, valued and supported from the very start. For many years, we have worked closely with our local primary schools to develop a well-established transition programme that helps students move confidently from primary to secondary school.
Through a wide range of opportunities to visit Frogmore, and by taking our staff and ‘taster lessons’ into the familiar setting of primary classrooms, students gain confidence not only in the new environment they are moving into, but also in the academic routines and expectations they will encounter.
Year 6 to 7 Transition - Key dates for your diary
| September | Visit us at our interactive Open Evening or see the school in action at one of our Open Mornings (these will be advertised and available to book from July). |
| End of October | Deadline for Secondary school place application. |
| Early March | Your home Local Authority will notify you of your child's allocated Secondary school. |
| Mid March | Welcome Evening for parents and students who have been offered a place at Frogmore. |
| By April | Families will receive a link to complete our digital registration form and receive information about our Arbor parent portal. |
| May and June | Students who will be joining us in September are invited to join us in a programme of extra-curricular activities. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends, get to know our staff and become familiar with the school site. |
| June | Our staff and current Frogmore students visit linked primary schools to introduce themselves and answer any questions about the move to Secondary school. During this time our year 7 pastoral team are working closely with primary school year 6 teams to ensure a smooth handover of supporting information. |
| Early July | We host all students joining us for our two day induction and transition programme. These days give students the chance to meet their tutor and Director of Year, experience lessons and gain further opportunity to become familiar with the school site before starting in September. Parents are invited in the evening for an introduction to Frogmore and to meet their child's Director of Year and other key staff. |
| Mid July | Small group induction sessions (by invitation) for students who may be more likely to feel anxious about the move to Secondary school. |
